Face Payment? This is Happening!

Can you imagine that not long time ago, we are used to hearing “by cash or credit card?” when we pay but now is “WeChat or Alipay?” But in the future, you don’t even need your phone anymore,  because the era of face payment is coming! Within 10 seconds, the payment is done.

Two years ago, Jack Ma, the founder and executive chairman of Alibaba Group, presented a new facial recognition-based payment system for smartphones on CeBIT. Two years later, this is happening!

Developed by Alibaba, they have combined Alipay with face recognization. The first place launched face payment is KPRO (KFC Pro) at Hangzhou is also the first one accept face payment in the whole world.

In the video, the customer used the self-order machine to order her meal, after chose “face payment”, she looked at the camera and smile. The machine recognized her face in 2 seconds. Then she inputs her phone number to confirm the payment.

The video even showed that if the user changed their appearance by wearing a wig or put on heavy make-up, or even with a group of people, the system still can recognize.

Double security

The user needs to scan the QR Code on the machine or allowed face payment function on Alipay App for the first time. The system required the user to wink or smile while activating the function.

After scanning the appearance of the user, the machine required to insert the phone number that links with the Alipay account to verify which ensure the security of the account.

The user can also turn off the face payment section at any time and even if the account got hack, which is a very small possibility, the Alipay will compensate the whole amount by the insurance company.

Alibaba is not the only IT companies working on the face payment. JD (JingDong), another 3C online retailer in China, is also launching their face payment at their Jingdong home, the offline store.

For sure is that with the effort that these companies made, maybe in the near future, we don’t even need our phone to do the payment. The technology already made us put down our wallet and now they are making us put our phone away. As the saying goes, at some point, the laziness made the technology developed
