Here we are again, the beautiful season of the year when everyone goes outside without a hat or sunscreen. Especially after the wind swept the rainy clouds and the dark smog far away from Beijing.  The painful consequence: sunburn!

Here some tips and tricks:

1 Do not use ice cubes for cooling

A sustained and intensive cooling harms the body more than they benefit. It reduces the body’s defense mechanism and thus retard wound healing. Here is a better way to soothe your skin: Give a teaspoon of baking soda in about 15-20 degrees cold water, soak a cloth in it and place it on the affected area.

2 Wet pack are miracle cures

Buttermilk, cottage cheese or yogurt are real power packs when it comes to the treatment of sun. You can also apply the food on your skin directly. Wait until everything is dry and wash off the crust with lukewarm water.

3 Soak in some oatmeal

Remember soaking in an oatmeal bath to cure your chickenpox as a child? It worked so well because oatmeal soothes inflammation, which is why it’ll treat sunburn too. Soak for 15 to 20 minutes and air-dry yourself so you don’t wipe off the healing oats with your towel. Your skin should feel better in no time.

4 Be careful with beauty products!

Stay away from oils and ointments, which are on a fat base. The supposedly healing products affect skin to breath and can cause ‘heat accumulation’. A real insider tip from grandma: Use 1000 mg of acetylsalicylic acid when you feel you will get a sunburn. Also aloe vera, chamomile and colloidal silver have a soothing and anti-inflammatory effects.

5 Drink like a wale

Your body loses a lot of water when having a sunburn. Therefore drinking a lot of water is a must! If you are not a water lover, you can also have some unsweetened herbal tea to give your body back the energy.

6 Be all about Tomatoes

Tomatoes will help you deal with sunburn in two ways: You can eat them or soak in their juices. When applied to burns of any type, fresh tomato juice alleviates redness and inflammation and soothes the skin. Thanks to lycopene, eating tomatoes can actually improve the skin’s ability to protect itself again UV rays, which means that your body can build a defense against those harmful rays. But that doesn’t mean to skip the sun lotion!!

7 Snack on Promegranate Seeds

Promegranate seeds also help you skin protect itself from the inside out. Pom ariels (seeds) are full of antioxidants, so they help prevent skin from burning. So pack a few the next time you plan on passing out by the pool, or lazing around for hours in Chaoyang Park.

8 Rub on the potatoes

When it comes to applying potatoes to your sunburn, think of them in the same way you’d apply cucumber to your eyes. Cut raw, refrigerated potatoes into thin slices, and then gently apply them to sunburned areas. Their starchy compounds are where it’s at for sunburn relief.
