Fragrant Hills Park, also known as the Xiangshan Park (香山公园), is a perfect day trip location in autumn. Located just 28 kilometers northwest of central Beijing, it is characterized by splendid hills and wide forest.

The hilly park covers an area of 160 hectares. It was built in 1186 under the Jin Dynasty and became a royal garden: the Garden of Tranquility and Pleasure. Among other spots, visitors will enjoy the Suangqing Villa, a former residence of Mao Zedong, tibetan-style Zhao Temple, Jingcui Lake and the main peak of the Fragrant Hill, the Xiqnglu Peak (557 meters).

Fragrant Hills Park is a must-see in autumn as it will display its prettiest colours. Indeed, the leaves of over 94,000 cypress trees turn red and blanket the entire mountain. If you didn’t have any plans for this weekend: now you do!
