Day Trip Series #1 Explore the Stunning Yanshan Via Ferrata

Yanshan Mountain (燕山飞拉达), which is located 1.5 hours north of Beijing, deserves a visit for its fresh air and tranquility. It is an ideal place to take part in a via ferrata tour (translated as ‘iron road’ in Italian).  Via ferrata refers to a specific kind of rock climbing. It consists in a series of footholds, handholds and steel cables fixed to the rock. Yanshan via ferrata offers three routes along with a zip-line ride guaranteed to get your heart rate up! When hiking along the trail, visitors will also enjoy the dramatic landscape with steep cliffs and luxuriant vegetation.

This outdoor activity comes with an appropriate level of security and safety. Indeed, Yanshan via ferrata has been equipped and is maintained by an European company. All in all, the rock climbing routes become easier and safer. Definitely a sport that can be practiced alone or in family!

Note: Yanshan Via Ferrata routes are closed for winter (Nov to April every year) but other activities are organized: hiking, single rope technic training, caving etc.

Getting there
Public transportation

Take the Bus 916 Express (快) at Dongzhimen Public Transport Hub (东直门交通枢纽) to Huairou city (怀柔). The bus takes Jingcheng highway. Get off the bus at Nanhua Market (南华市场), which is the 1st bus stop after the highway. From Nanhua Market, hire a local taxi or a minivan (8 seats minivan at 80 RMB one way).

How to get to Dongzhimen Public Transport Hub
Take subway Line 2, get off at the stop of Dongzhimen (东直门) and enter Dongzhimen Public Transport Hub through a connected channel from Dongzhimen Subway Station to Dongzhimen Public Transport Hub.
