Youdao App: Speak and get it translated into Chinese

As a learner of Mandarin Chinese, it’s sometimes frustrating that there seems to be no good dictionaries around. When compared with other major languages (especially English), dictionaries in Chinese are often very hard to read and often lack information we expect to be there.

The best feature about this app is, you can communicate with any random Chinese person only by speaking to your app. The app will translate your spoken words into Chinese and will read it out loud afterwards.

Beside the online translation Youdao also offers an offline part.

How to use it:
First of all you have to download the Youdao App. By only writing ‘Youdao’ your phone can find it in your App Store. The logo is the colorful parrot you can see in the article picture.

The voice translation is a perfect tool to communicate with any Chinese person. You just record your sentence by pushing the English button and it will be translated into Chinese immediately. The translated sentence will even be read out loud, so you don’t have to struggle hitting all the correct tones. If you don’t understand the Chinese, just let them talk into the app and it will be translated into English. Very easy and super helpful!

To choose your selected language, click on the top button and a list of 26 languages will appear.

To download the offline version you have to click on settings and download the data. There are only 4 languages available for offline: English, Japanese, Korean and French.
