1. Nanshan Ski Resort

Location: Miyun County, a 30-minute drive from Tian’anmen Square by expressway.

Features: Nanshan Ski Resort is the largest ski resort in northern China. You can experience all four seasons at the resort: skiing in winter, hiking in spring, playing in the water in summer and joining the harvest in autumn. Complete ski facilities and slopes are available for use.

Ski Facilities: Two cable car lines accommodating four or two passengers at a time, a unique mogul ski track, snowmobile tracks for children, China’s first six-a-side football field in the snow, over 5,000 sets of ski equipment for rent and more than 40 coaches.

It was the first Chinese ski resort to introduce international-standard snowboarding, having entered into a partnership with the Austrian company, Mellow Constructions, to establish a Mellow Park within Nanshan Ski Village; the Quiksilver Nanshan Mellow Park has five large jumps, five kickers, seven rails and an 80-meter half-pipe, all constructed to Mellow specifications.

Hardcore skiers will enjoy the ski village’s 600-meter-long Mogul Expert Trail, while novices can pace themselves on increasingly difficult beginner trails. There is even something for the smallest, as Nanshan Ski Village has a snowmobile terrain for kids, and the ski village’s 6-person snow football playground is the first of its kind in China.

2. Badaling Ski Resort

Location: About two kilometers from the Badaling Great Wall and only 1-hour drive from Beijing.

Features: The scenery around Badaling Ski Resort is great all year long: peach blossoms in spring, green mountains blanketed by trees in summer, golden fall foliage in autumn and a charming snow environment in winter.

A series of winter activities are popular at Badaling Ski Resort, including bungee jumping in the snow, ice sculptures and a snow sauna. Different difficulty levels of ski slopes can satisfy the requirements of skiers’ different proficiency levels. Badaling also has the longest snowmobile track in Beijing at 2,300 meters.

The resort features two 800 meter elementary ski runs. There are also two 600 meter intermediate ski runs and one 800 meter high-level ski run. However, the intermediate and advanced slopes have low difficulty. The park isn’t meant for advanced skiers. It is more of a ski park meant for easy fun.

3. Yuyang Ski Resort

Location: Pinggu district, a 90-minute drive from Beijing city center and Tianjin.

Features: Yuyang Ski Resort is the largest ski resort around Beijing. Its 11 different ski slopes meet the requirements of skiers’ various proficiency levels, from amateur to pro. Yuyang is a comprehensive tourist resort combining hiking and winter walks, dining, and other entertainment. The ski resort is open into the evening, offering you a great opportunity to appreciate the night scenery in the hills around Beijing.

Ski Facilities: Four-passenger cable cars, snowmobiles and a collection of recreational facilities.

4. Huaibei Ski Resort

Location: Huairou district, about a 2-hour drive from the Forbidden City.

Features: You can appreciate the Mutianyu Great Wall at Huaibei Ski Resort because it is located in Jiugukou Natural Scenic Area, which is surrounded by the Great Wall. The ski slopes at this resort meet international standards with lengths of 3,800 meters. A collection of winter activities are popular at the resort, including snowmobiling and snow climbing. There is also a ski training school supported by Huaibei Ski Resort and France Ski Association where you can learn professional skiing skills and techniques from experienced coaches.

Huaibei Ski Resort has different difficulty levels of ski slopes for everyone from amateurs to professional skiers. Riding the cable cars that are built above the Great Wall is an exciting experience with fantastic views.

The ski resort has advanced and complete equipments, such as three cables cars, seven ski runs, ski equipment store with the area of 3,000 square meters, a western dinning hall with the area of 300 square meters, 3,000 snow suits, 3,000 skis and 200 snowboards. The ski resort has the snow trail of 3,800 meters which ranks the longest in Beijing, including 4 trails for ski beginners, 1 for medium skiers and 2 for professional skiers. Besides, 60 professional instructors are ready to help skiers of various levels. Huaibei Ski Resort operates from December to the following March every year.

5. Yunfoshan Ski Resort

Location: Yunfoshan Tourist Village, Miyun County, to the south of Miyun Reservoir.

Features: Yunfoshan Ski Resort is surrounded by mountains on three sides. A number of winter activities are available, including snow sculptures and dog sledding.

Ski Facilities: Different difficulty levels of ski slopes at the resort can entertain all levels of skiers. More than 4,000 sets of ski equipment are available for more than 3,000 travelers.

The ski runs of the ski resort cover a total area of 450,000 square meters, including a 1,000-meter-long advanced ski run, 3 secondary ski runs with the length ranging from 300 to 700 meters, 4 primary ski runs with the length ranging from 100 to 300 meters, one 600-meter-long trail for snow motorcycle, a 1.5-kilometer-long cross-county fitness piste and a U-shape ski run for snowboard. Yunfoshan Ski Resort has 2 cable cars, 2 snow-packing machines and 10 snowmakers.

6. Lianhuashan Ski Resort

Location: Shunyi district, a 90-minute drive from the city center.

Features: You can enjoy skiing in a surreal green-and-white world due to the well-protected green plants around the ski resort.

At present, the ski resort contains 7 skiing trails including primary, intermediate and high-level trails. Besides, it also contains snowfield motorcycle trail, football on snowfield, tennis court, racecourse and swimming area in summer. The brand new snowboards are all imported from overseas.

All difficulty levels of ski slopes and several cable cars, together with a snowboard park, can meet the various demands of skiers in Lianhuashan Ski Resort.

7. Shijinglong Ski Resort

Location: Yanqing County, about 80 kilometers from Beijing.

Features: Shijinglong Ski Resort was exquisitely designed to be a grand ski resort in Beijing with a range of ski equipment and various winter activities. A snow sauna and hot springs are the specialties of Shijinglong Ski Resort. The volume of snow at the resort can be changed to meet requirements because the snow is man-made. If you are an amateur skier, the experienced coaches at the ski resort can help you to learn basic skills.

After renovations, Shijinglong has the widest senior- and middle-rank ski slopes in Beijing. The resort has seven ski runs of varying degrees of difficulty ranging from amateur to expert. The most challenging slope is more than 1,000 meters long. With a maximum incline of 30 degrees, it has a pitch of 300 meters. The mid-level run has a maximum incline of 28 degrees. The junior ski run for beginners is more than 3,000 meters long with an average incline of 10 degrees. In addition, there is a separate snowboarding park.

8. Jundushan Ski Resort

Location: Tangshan Hot Spring Tourist Resort, Changping district, about 30 kilometers from the city center.

Features: Jundushan Ski Resort is one of the biggest ski resorts in Beijing, able to entertain 6,000 travelers. You can reach the ski resort after a 40-minute drive.

It has the most difficult advanced ski run in China, safe and comfortable primary and secondary ski runs and appropriate ski training area for beginners. Besides, 8 drag equipment, cable-ways and over 4,000 ski equipment of a variety can meet skiers of various needs.

The primary Ski Run includes the No. 1 ski run with the length of 380 meters, the width of 50 meters and the average grade of 10°and the No. 2 ski run with the length of 380 meters, the width of 45 meters and the average grade of 12°. The secondary ski run includes the No. 3 ski run with the length of 530 meters, the width of 35 meters and the average grade of 18°and the No. 4 ski run with the length of 380 meters, the width of 40 meters and the average grade of 16°. The advanced ski run is the No. 7 ski run with the length of 1,200 meters, the width of 30 meters and the average grade of 35°.
